About Me

My name is Susanna Pilny, and I am a science writer for redOrbit, one of the top 15 science news websites in the world. I have written on many different topics in the sciences, but my primary foci are biology and archaeology.

My work has trended on the front page of Reddit, and has been featured on the Wall Street Journal‘s best of the web section. I am available for freelance work, with rates negotiable depending on what you’re looking for.

I have a degree in neuroscience from Vanderbilt University, and I have nearly completed with a second degree in Classics from the University of Rhode Island. My current aim is to attend graduate school for the Classics, and eventually work on a PhD.

I’m also a tireless traveler, who came down with the travel bug after being granted the phenomenal opportunity to study abroad in Aix-en-Provence, France. Probably my favorite trip thus far involved travelling solo to Athens, Greece, where I naturally delved into everything ancient with my usual geeky enthusiasm, and where I was 50 feet from a small firefight between police and a wanted terrorist. (That part might have been a little stressful.)
